About Me

Hi There:

I'm originally from NY but moved to Colorado 10 years ago.  Been married for a little longer than the time we first got rabbits and have two kids aged 15 & 11.  We've had rabbits on and off for the last 18 years or so.  Last March we bought a mini rex from a breeder & she was wonderful.  Unfortunately, eight months later she was diagnosed with kidney cancer and we eventually had to put her to sleep.

I vowed to not get ant more pets.  Two weeks later, my loneliness got the better of me and took in a huge 5-month lionhead mix.  After a couple of weeks I realized the rabbit wasn't a good fit (Couldn't get it to stp spraying pee all over the house) and returned it.  Last month we got 2 baby mini rexes (about 6 wks old) from a breeder and love them.

Hi Doc:

Both of my bunnies (supposedly female) are extremely lively, eat and drink and seem very happy. They litter box trained very quickly. My issue is with one of them.

Again the one with the issue shows zero signs of being in any kind of pain, no grinding teeth, eats &, drinks voraciously, hopping & flying around the house; however, her stools are soft, though formed & she has this kind of clear jell-like excretions, too. I've never seen this w/any of my rabbits before. I've read about this on some websites but my rabbit shows NO signs of discomfort or pain so I'm not sure if it's "mucoid enteritis."

We mainly feed them pellets & timothy hay w/an occasional carrot. I try to keep the fresh stuff limited b/c of her excretions. One time we mixed unflavored pedialyte to their water & it seemed to clear it up a little, but since this has gone on for about a month I'm writing to you for any kind of suggestions.

Looking forward to your response.

Ira
